Basics
Solvent products include:
- Glues
- Dry-cleaning fluids
- Aerosols
- Strippers
- Petrol
- Test correction fluids
- Gas lighter refills

How is it taken?
- Sniffing primarily - often as a group activity. Most common between 12 and 16 year-olds
- Put into poly bags and inhaled over whole mouth and nasal area
- Aerosols are squirted down into the mouth and throat area.

What happens
- The experience is similar to that of being drunk, as the user experiences light-headedness, dizziness and often hallucinations
- Sickness and drowsiness may also be experienced and after wards it can be like having a hangover.

Possible consequences
- Accidents may occur if sniffers occupy dangerous locations eg main road.If the sniffer slips into unconsciousness, the risk of choking is increased.
- Suffocation is also a risk is solvents are sniffed in a plastic bag placed over the head.
